Question 1

How do I play music on several devices at once?

Accepted Answer

Install Allsono on every device, make one the source and choose "Use as speaker" next to the others. Allsono sends the sound over your Wi-Fi and keeps every device exactly in time.

Question 2

Does Allsono work with Spotify?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a Mac as the source: Spotify, YouTube, podcasts and other apps all share their sound. On Android, Spotify doesn't let other apps capture its sound; Allsono then tells you and keeps the sound on the phone itself. Send Spotify to your Mac with Spotify Connect instead and make the Mac the source. YouTube, YouTube Music and most other apps do work on Android. On iPhone, Apple Music can't be shared.

Question 3

Can my iPhone be the source?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with one limit set by Apple: iOS doesn't let any app delay or mute the sound of other apps. All speakers then play perfectly in sync, but the iPhone itself runs slightly ahead. Have a Mac? Then make the Mac the source: everything plays perfectly in sync. With Spotify Connect or AirPlay you can still control the music on the Mac from your iPhone. Without a Mac, turn the iPhone itself down.

Question 4

What about delay or echo?

Accepted Answer

All speakers play the same fragment at the same moment, within a few milliseconds on a good Wi-Fi network. Only an iPhone that is itself the source runs slightly ahead (see above). Allsono also measures and compensates for the delay of Bluetooth and AirPlay speakers.

Question 5

Do I need internet?

Accepted Answer

The sound only travels over your own Wi-Fi network. Internet is only needed to sign in and check your subscription daily; offline, Allsono keeps working for up to three days.

Question 6

Which devices does Allsono support?

Accepted Answer

Macs with macOS 14.2 or later, Android phones with Android 10 or later and iPhones with iOS 17 or later. You can mix them freely.

Question 7

What does Allsono cost?

Accepted Answer

Nothing. Allsono is in beta and free: create an account and use the apps on all your devices. If that ever changes, we will let you know well in advance.
