Using your iPhone as the source

Updated 29 October 2026

An iPhone with iOS 17 or later can be the source. Apple only lets apps share other apps' sound through a screen broadcast, so that is how Allsono works on the iPhone.

How to start

  1. Open Allsono and tap "Make this iPhone the source".
  2. Read the "This iPhone runs ahead" notice and continue.
  3. Pick "Allsono" in the broadcast sheet and tap "Start Broadcast". Allsono only uses the sound, never the picture.
  4. Pick the devices that should play along with "Use as speaker" and start your music.

Why the iPhone itself runs ahead

The speakers wait a moment so they can all play exactly together. iOS doesn't let any app delay or mute the sound of other apps, so the iPhone itself plays straight away and runs a fraction ahead.

The fix is simple: mute the iPhone itself or turn it right down. Then you only hear the speakers, and they are exactly in time. Have a Mac? Make it the source; with Spotify Connect or AirPlay you still control the music from your iPhone.

Which apps work

Most apps share their sound through the broadcast. Music from Apple Music can't be shared; Apple itself prevents that.
